Healing of skin wounds
Based on the nature and size of the wound, skin wound heals by either of the two process
1. Healing by FIRST intention ( primary union)
injury involves only the epithelial layer
Clean, uninfected surgical incision approximated by surgical sutures
2. Healing by SECOND intention ( secondary union)
wounds with large tissue deficits
The steps involved in skin wound healing is illustrated in the images below
WOUND STRENGTH: the wound will have 10% of that of the normal strength at the end of first week, which rapidly increases and slows in 4 weeks.
it achieves 70-80% that of normal at the end of three months.
